SRN is a short line in Texas that primarily hauls pulpwood and finished paper products from mills and finishing plants. SRN has connections with both BNSF and Union Pacific. To encourage the return of the boxcars, short line railroads, like Port Huron, could charge a per diem, or daily fee, until the cars were returned.

It features rectangular vent covers on the exterior of the car, allowing moisture from the wood pulp to escape the car, preventing product damage and rust inside the car. This Laurinburg and Southern Railroad (LRS) 60’ boxcar was decorated by GATX as the centerpiece for the “Save the Monarch Butterfly - 60,000 Tree Challenge” North American boxcar tour. Kansas City Southern, Canadian Pacific, GATX and several other organizations collaborated to create the campaign. The annual migratory journey of the Monarch Butterfly is a long one - from the Windsor, Canada area, through the United States, and ends near Monterrey in Michoacán State of Mexico. This boxcar tour paralleled this migratory path of these amazing pollinators to raise $100,000 to help reestablish the still-threatened Monarch population, by planting 60,000 oyamel trees at El Rosario Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary in Michoacán, Mexico.

This BH20AB-class 89’ MTTX flatcar was used for general purpose bulk loading of construction equipment, industrial machinery, or in this case, the 10,000th delivery of a 737, on its way to Renton, WA, for final assembly and eventual delivery to Southwest Airlines. This momentous occasion occurred in 2018. The flatcar features deck mounted purpose-built pedestals and specialized retainment devices that allows the safe loading and transportation of this unique load. NYC&HR Refrigerator Cars in series 154000-154584 have a capacity of 80,000 pounds and an interior length of 33 feet. The dimensions were specifically calculated by a master builder and based on being able to accommodate an ideal load of 800 cases of egg crates! These dimensions would vary slightly for the acquiring railroads. These cars received red, white, and blue stripes on the all white scheme, and ride on Bettendorf trucks.
