Linde Cryogenic Gas Two-Pack (First of Series)
Micro-Trains

Road # LAPX 2007 and # LAPX 2061 are two of 65 (2001- 2065) AAR class XT 40' cars built by General American Transportation Corporation in February 1952 and leased to Linde Air Products Company.  The cars in the series were equipped with 7-rung side and end ladders, Apex Tri-lok running boards and brake steps, Youngstown post-war steel doors with Camel fixtures, Universal power hand brakes, and 70 ton trucks with 33" one-wear wrought steel wheels.  Over the years, a total of 347 cars were made by by GATC for the Linde Co.

Known as Cryogenic Gas Box/Tank cars, these were special tank cars masquerading as box cars.  Hidden inside were 7,000 to 9,700 gallon double walled, vacuum-insulated, cryogenic-gas tanks each weighing in at about 30 tons independent of the car itself or its commodity. In order to transport the interior tank along with its liquid commodity, the cars were built with a capacity of 70 tons.

NSC Commissioned Micro-Trains to produce this 1st in a series of cryogenic gas box/tank cars. Each box/tank car has a custom made cyrogenic tank mounted to the floor. A separately etched brass ladder is attached, and controls are printed, reflecting the prototype.
