Z Scale This 40’ wood sheathed reefer with vertical brake wheel is the third offering in the Brewery Reefer Series. This release represents the Gluek Brewing Company of Minneapolis, MN. A successful brewery, it was turning out 44 barrels of beer a day. The brewery survived Prohibition, but was eventually sold to G. Heilemann in 1964. He tore the place down two years later. The Gluek’s label was acquired by the Cold Spring Brewing Company, which today produces beer for the Gluek’s restaurant in downtown Minneapolis. ..

A Canadian Brewery founded in 1907 by three families expanded operations throughout northern Ontario. It was built in August 1933 and runs on Archbar trucks. Burlington Refrigerator Express, which was operated by Fruit Growers for the CB&Q, leased small numbers of reefers to a number of private shippers in the 1930s. The car was built in January 1911 by General American, repainted in July 1934, and runs on Bettendorf trucks. It was a single car repainted for Manhattan Brewing Company of Chicago, brewers of ‘Old Manhattan” lager. The leasing of refrigerator cars to brewing companies became a flourishing business after prohibition ended in 1933. ..
