Z Scale Reading - rd#19312
These 50’ standard box cars with single door are green with yellow lettering and run on Roller Bearing trucks. Built in 1945 as 40’ cars, they were later rebuilt into a 50’ cars featuring DF loaders, joining Class XMLc. Reading can be traced back to 1833 as the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad, one of the first railroads in the United States. Over time it became just ‘Reading,’ and remained profitable through World War I. By the 1960s, declining profits lead to bankruptcy in 1971. In 1976, the remaining assets were merged with other railroads to form Conrail.
